The LCD screens of ebook readers such as the Kindle or Sony Reader need a little extra care and attention to protect them from scratches and damage.

The modern ebook reader has come along way from the original versions which were bulky and cumbersome to carry or read. Modern ebook readers, such as the Amazon Kindle or Sony Reader, are a similar size to a small paperback and yet will store many tens or hundreds of ebooks.

One of the features of the modern ebook reader is its large LCD screen and this makes viewing and reading ebooks easy and straightforward. This is also a downside as this large screen is vulnerable to scratching and this can make the reading of the screen difficult. There are, however, a number of screen protectors that will help to keep the screen safe from scratches and other damage.

Leather Ebook Covers

One of the most popular ways of protecting ebook readers is with a leather cover. These offer the dual benefits of protecting the screen while also giving a 'leather bound' quality feel to the ebook reader. Leather covers are available in a range of colors and are typically tailor made to the brand of ebook reader.

Neoprene Ebook Covers

An alternative to leather covers are neoprene covers, or covers made from other synthetic materials. These are both attractive to look at while also being hard wearing and long lasting. These are available in a wide variety of colors . Unlike leather covers, which are typically muted, the colors can be bright, funky and vibrant as well as just plain black. These are available specifically for certain brands, such as the Kindle or Sony Reader or they are available as a 'one size fits all' option.

Sleeves

Sleeves are an alternative to covers. The ebook slides into a sleeve that is sealed on three sides with one side open. The ebook reader is taken out when it is to be read. This has certain advantages as it means that the entire ebook reader is kept safe and secure when it is put into a bag or briefcase. Ebook reader sleeves can be simple sleeves or may contain other features such as small pockets to contain cards or other items.

Screen Protectors

A low cost, yet very effective way of protecting screens is with a temporary self-adhesive screen cover. This is a type of film that is cut to size and fits over the LCD screen of an ebook reader. This protects the screen against dust, grease and dirt as well as light scratches. This is a very economical way of protecting the screen and is suitable for all types of ebook reader such as the Kindle and Sony Reader.

While these protectors help to keep the screens from damage, they do not protect the ebook reader from any damage caused by dropping or banging the device. More sturdy cases, such as aluminum shell cases, are better suited to protecting ebook readers in more robust environments.

Simple steps to protect an ebook reader screen can prove to be an excellent investment and insure that the reader gives many years of pleasure.
