Divine Justice by David Baldacci AudiobookLatest Camel Club Bestseller Sees Oliver Stone in a New Adventure
David Baldacci reunites the Camel Club in his latest bestseller, Divine Justice. How does reader Ron McLarty translate this fast moving thriller to the audiobook format?
This is a review of the unabridged cd audiobook edition of Divine Justice by David Baldacci. Divine Justice is the fourth novel in the Camel Club series of books by David Baldacci. The series follows the adventures of a group of friends whose goal is to 'seek the truth'. The group is led by a man with a hidden history who has taken the name 'Oliver Stone'. Oliver Stone is the alias of John Carr, the most wanted man in America. At the start of Divine Justice, Carr settles an old score, assassinating the two man who have ruined his life. This triggers a manhunt and the person leading that hunt has his own agenda. As Carr flees for his life and seeks refuge in a tiny and secluded mining town in Virginia called Divine, his friends from the Camel Club try to find and rescue him – from his enemies and from himself. Divine is a town with its own problems and instead of offering Carr a place of shelter and safety, it opens up a new set of horrors for him to face. The NarrationDivine Justice is narrated by the actor and author Ron McLarty. McLarty has narrated other of David Baldacci's novels including Simple Genius. The narration of Divine Justice is well paced and with just enough characterization to differentiate the characters. This is particularly important during the action scenes where several characters are involved at the same time. McLarty reads the book with enthusiasm and this is apparent in the quality of the narration which definitely adds to the enjoyment of the listen. The unabridged audiobook is just over eleven hours long which makes it a long listen. The quality of the writing and narration, however, holds the listener's attention throughout. This is an exiting and enjoyable listen and will appeal to listeners who enjoy the suspense and thriller genre. This is the fourth in the series. The other books being The Camel Club (2005), The Collectors (2006) and Stone Cold (2007). The role of the Camel Club isn't really explained in Divine Justice. While this does become apparent as the plot develops, the listener does not get any background which, perhaps, leaves a few gaps in fully understanding the characters and their relationship with each other. This does not detract from the enjoyment of the listen and fans of the series who have listened to or read earlier books in the series are likely to appreciate the fact that precious pages are not used up going over old ground.
