Knitters can enjoy listening to books about knitting without having to worry about turning pages and dropping stitches. There are many different titles to listen to.

Editor's Choice

One aspect of enjoying a good book in audio format rather than paper format is the freedom that the listener has to do other things at the same time. Many knitters and crocheters take advantage of this freedom, allowing themselves to become absorbed in a good story while also working on their favorite craft. While some knitters have mastered the art of balancing a novel on their lap, deftly turning pages without dropping stitches, other knitters find the prospect of a tangled mess too off putting. Audiobooks are the perfect solution!

The range of audiobooks to choose from is immense and a knitter will be able to find abridged and unabridged bestsellers in every genre. What will be of particular interest to many knitters, however, is the growth in the number of audiobooks which have knitting as their subject. What better accompaniment is there to actually knitting or crocheting than listening to a book on the subject. There are both fiction and non-fiction audiobooks available that are connected to knitting in some way.

Non Fiction Knitting Audiobooks

One audiobook publisher who specializes in knitting related books is Knitting Out Loud. Realizing that many knitters like to read about their subject, Knitting Out Loud publish a number of audiobooks ranging from studies of the history of knitting through to to memoirs. This includes the bestselling Stitch and Bitch: The Knitters Handbook by Debbie Stoller (patterns not included). Knitting Out Loud audiobooks can be purchased through their website (knittingoutloud.com) or via audiobook retailers such as Audible.

Fiction

There are a number of fiction books with a plot that is set around a knitting club or yarn store. These books loosely weave together the lives of the main characters with their passion for knitting and yarn. They often feature journeys of self development and exploration of friendships. Knitting related fiction audiobooks include:

  • The Friday Night Knitting Club by Kate Jacobs. This Audie nominated audiobook is narrated by Carrington MacDuffie. The unabridged version plays for over twelve hours and is available in a number of different audio formats including digital download. Publisher: Blackstone Audio
  • Knitting by Anne Bartlett. The unabridged audiobook plays for eight hours and is read by Anne Bartlet. Publisher: Bolinda Publishing
  • The Knitting Circle by Ann Hood. Hillary Huber narrates this unabridged audiobook that plays over nine hours. It is available in a number of audio formats including digital download. Publisher: Blackstone Audio

Knitting audiobooks are a great way for a knitter to be able to immerse themselves in a good 'read'. Knitters can enjoy a book while leaving their hands free to knit or crochet without the fear of too many dropped stitches!
